L. David Mech

Senior Research Scientist, U.S. Geological Survey

Dave Mech is a Senior Research Scientist with the U.S. Geological Survey and an Adjunct Professor with the University of Minnesota.  He holds B.S., Ph.D., and honorary doctorate degrees.  He chaired IUCN’s Wolf Specialist Group from 1978 to 2013 and is the advisor for wolves to the IUCN Canid Specialist Group. Dave has studied wolves since 1958 in Minnesota, Isle Royale, Alaska, Yellowstone, and Ellesmere Island and has published some 500 articles and 12 books. 

Dave is the founder of the International Wolf Center.
